My Passion - Handmade Jewelry

I have been creating things for as far back as I could remember..It was not limited to jewelry at first, I had this tiny corner of my room that I had filled with handmade things..wire dolls covered with fabric, paper bead necklaces, plates made of  multicolor paper pasted together, etc etc,..But after a while I was seriously working on Jewelry..I know antique jewelry has been in demand for a while now..But at a time when it was not that common, I had started using my own antiquing method,or, showing the  bright silver and gold jewelry to a candle flame to get it oxidised and dark..You may know, people of India are known for their investing in gold , for us it is one thing that can be considered a never failing investment..So, whenever my Grandma  (she was a retired teacher, one of the greatest influences in my life), or my father(my constant friend, and I hope now, my ever watchful guardian, he passed away in May this year after a brief struggle with cancer, life has not been and never will be the same without him) saved some extra money, they would turn it into gold..So these were in the form of jewelry for me and my younger sis :) anyways, with me antiquing things and using the common variety of glue to stick rhinestones and other stuff onto real gold settings, my mom and dad had begun to get worried..They finally made me to promise them not to work on real gold...They said, you can buy all the costume jewelry you want and work on them without spoiling all these perfectly good and costly pieces.. Thus started my collection.. I remember having it from about 6th grade,I had this brown cylindrical case filled with bits and pieces, odds and ends, and I carried them with me to my college dorm, from there to my very first job etc..At that time my tools were still a brand new nailclipper I bought for Jewelry work, some pliers from my dads tool box and anything else i could get my hands on !

So then I got married, my husband knew I had this thing, but he knew how bad only after we got married :) he gifted me with my first real set of tools for jewelry making and I also discovered the magical world of ebay about 7 years back right after our marriage and we moved to US,  I could just click here and there and all the supplies I wanted started appearing in my mailbox..

Thus started my jewelry designing in earnest !! Today it has become a very real part of my life, Its a constant friend, something that I believe in for it Therapeutical values, a world of my own when I need to relax..

I intend to share with you some pieces in my store (www.peelirohini.etsy.com), the story behind them,
a few things I have learnt in my way and a lot of other things...
And, I would love to hear from you ...

A bit about me and my family

Let me introduce my family to you..We are from India, but have been living in US for more than 7 years now.. My husband is one of the most understanding persons I have ever met, a very good thing as I am kinda temperamental...:)  I met him 10 years ago, when I was a freshly recruited Software engineer at my very first work place and he was my mentor. It took us a while to realise we were destined to be together...Anyways, we have now been married for 7 years and we have a bubbly 4 year old..Oh, the things she says sometimes:)
